City of Sin: glimpses of Montreal's criminal and radical past...and future

A light hearted and irreverent romp through Montreal's past, from the point of view of a keen observer, avid reader and occasional walking tour guide. Our walk will take us in between the Louis-Hippolyte LaFontaine house and Montreal's Guaranteed Milk sign, past the formerly vibrant and affordable Overdale neighbourhood, demolished and empty for decades (now glimmering towers of vacant condos) and then over by the Cheese Grater, where Montreal built a public park over a graveyard full of dead bodies from a cholera epidemic. We will wrap up on Saint Catherine Street for a contemplation of Montreal's failed efforts to control strip bars and subsequent Supreme Court decisions that re-write the test of 'community' standards.
